  • Overview

    Reporting to the department manager, a teller takes racing bets from customers and makes change in the form of cash quickly and efficiently.

     

    Responsibilities

    The interaction between the customer and mutuel teller is pivotal. The teller receives information in an abbreviated and fast manner from the customer. That information must be entered into the teller’s machine accurately and efficiently. Tickets are produced before the customer pays for them. The teller must secure or maintain control of the tickets until the customer pays. Customer is responsible for checking the tickets for accuracy before leaving the teller’s window. 

     

    • Upon arrival, teller obtains working funds from the Post Office style lock box by use of their key
    • Tellers report to their assigned windows
    • When needed, additional funds are available from the mini dealer (draw)
    •  Excess funds are given to the mini dealer at any time (skim)
    • Cash wagers are received from patrons; change is provided as necessary, mutual ticket is given to the patron
    • Upon presentation of a winning mutual ticket, teller ensures its validity, then pays the patron the amount due.
    • At conclusion of shift, teller makes a final skim to the mini dealer, then placed the balance of the working funds back in to lock box

    Qualifications

    • Able to count money and handle money quickly and accurately
    • Experience as a cashier or similar position a plus.
    • Able learn and operate self service machines
    • Exceptional people and customer service skills
    • Knowledge of racing industry and racing terms desired
    • Knowledge of the use of a Mutuel Teller machine to input wager, is a plus.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and maintain a racing license from the state of NJ
